Frequently asked questions

The questions that actually come up, answered without padding.

Is this real gold?

No, and no page here says otherwise. The pieces are 14k gold plated or sterling silver finished over a hypoallergenic brass or copper base. That construction is why a necklace with a thousand ratings costs about ten dollars.

Will it turn my skin green or make my ears itch?

The base metal is nickel free and lead free, which removes the most common irritant. Skin reactions with this line are rare in the rating history. Green marks come from plating wearing through on jewelry that lives in water and lotion; keep it dry and it stays a non-issue for a long time.

Can I shower or swim in it?

Only the anklets and the waist chain are rated waterproof. Everything else comes off before showers, pools and the ocean. This one habit is the difference between a finish that lasts and one that dulls in a month.

How do I pick between gold and silver?

Match what you already wear: check your watch, your rings, your favorite earrings. Buying a gift? Look at the same things on the person you are buying for. Five of the core designs run in both metals, so you rarely have to compromise.

Do the necklaces layer?

Yes, and the lengths are spread out for exactly that: a 14.96 inch choker, 15 to 16.5 inch pendants, lariats at 17.32 and 20 inches. Two chains with at least an inch and a half between them will not fight each other.

Is it really ready for gifting?

Every piece ships in the Foxgirl gift box, so there is nothing to wrap. Most of the line also carries a 90 day refund policy, which covers the classic gift risk of a wrong letter or a wrong metal.
